There were remakes of the gen 2 games somewhere along the line, with those remakes came a change in character designs. The anime reflects this.

If you ask me, it went absolutely right.
Though just right, not necessarily better.

New game new designs! Something must change just because! Personally I would have prefered they just added a strawhat instead to round off the beauty at the beach set.

Every character got some tweaks in their design, Jasmine is just more noticeable because any change will stand out against her old, utterly simple design.
Least she got it better than Karen and Sabrina. Specially Sabrina. Poor girl, I wonder if she also got tips from Erika.

Honestly, Jasmine's redesign wasn't so bad. It's very similar to the first and I still I like it.
Sabrina, however completely ruined the character for me.

Her redesign completely misses the point of her original design: a sundress because she lives in a coast town, pure white to accentuate her personality.

What as we could see with several redesigns, that's how it works: novelty comes first and actual design second.
