We know Kahili was an expert battler with a talent for golf, eventually going abroad thanks to her skills. Meanwhile Guzma's room is filled with old trophies and he has (bent) golf clubs. They're both from well off families, too, though Kahili is much richer. Plus it isn't a stretch to assume Kahili. Kukui, and Guzma are all around the same age.

Even if they weren't rivals, I'm sure Guzma was forced to spend time on her family's golf course growing up.
