They've changed the card format multiple times, and the first time was before Johto. Compare this to >>33400514

Most cards today don't look like the OP, only the rare ones. And even that's changed, GX and EX are very different, visually.

Yes, but barely.

Round instead of square evo circle, different placement for "Basic/Stage 1/Stage 2", slightly different shape to the stat bar, and the swirls by the Weakness/Resistance. Compare Base-Neo to e-card, ex, DP, and so on.

Do you want physical cards and to play in real life tournaments, or would you be satisfied with the online game? Because PTCGO is much cheaper than the real thing, even if you buy code cards. But then you miss out on holding the pretty pieces of paper in your hand, which in my opinion is half the fun.

E-series/early ex era template is God tier and only normies have a problem with it. I don't have a favorite artwork per say but this is prob my favorite from that era.

No stat bar, no Pokedex info, uneven borders...not God tier.

E-card was great and had God tier art, but the templates were meh. Early ex series was absolute trash, and might be my least favorite in the TCG. Later ex improved the design, but I still wish it had room for dex entries. I was pretty happy when DP brought it back.
