This is what I believe to be true in the games to be honest.
Kanto, Pokenation and Kanto, Japan both exist at the same time and you can travel from one to the other.
Same thing with Unova and New York, and Kalos and France.
Similarly, in an older entry in that Pokemon Daisuki Club that recently gave us Mystery Files, it was revealed that Mew was released on Faraway Island by Fuji, but not found there, so technically it was still discovered in Guyana.
On top of that, everytime you see a globe in the games, it's always 1:1 with the real world.
It would also explain why Looker knows several real-world languages and why multi-lingual phrases were thrown around in Lumiose.

My point is that Delta Episode contradicts it's story and tone when it asks us to accept two similar situations- large meteor impacts- without similar consequence. Once a meteor reaches a specific size, such as one that can create a giant crater lake, you expect fallout in the form of rapid climate change, earthquakes and tsunami, and death of nearby living things. The worst that happened were the Primals waking up to wreak havoc.

Then, much later, Zinnia starts going on and on about how this other meteor is going to destroy the whole planet, not just the region. Thing is, in the cutscene, the meteor is not particularly larger than Mega Fug (and for reference, a meteor large enough to change the face of the the earth has to be hundreds of miles in diameter), and bringing into reference Sootopolis, should not be much larger than the previous one.

In that case, why must we have been so worried about this meteor if the last one had no appropriate consequence?

The possible consequence of the second meteor is the destruction of Hoenn. The destruction of the world has been often used as plot in lots of fictional media. The meteor impacts have different consequences because they have different sizes. If they stated the two meteors were the same size, there would be a contradiction. They didn't.
