torterra ruins the gen4 starters Imo, infernape is okay and empoleon is really good

Gen2 has good starters but gen3 starters are better than them

Gen1 has venusaur which is way better than sceptile but blastoise can't even compare to swampert and charizard and blaziken are equals

Gen5 lol only serperior is good here and it's a tie with sceptile

Gen6 same as gen2

Gen7 same as gen2 but they aren't anywhere near good

Gen 4 has solid final evo starters all the way through. Gen 3 tops other gen starters because their entire lines are perfect. You never catch people shitting on or forgetting Combusken, Marshtomp amd Grovyle like they would Monferno or Prinplup.

Gens 5 to 7 are definitely where starter designs actually descend from ok to garbage.

Meganium is pretty shit even in maingame play, Typhlosion is alright but Fire-types are wholly unnecessary in gen 2. Feraligatr is the only one that shines there and has only gotten better as time's gone by.

The real problem is that nowadays while it's still good for maingame play it's held back by its middling speed and lack of high-powered STAB options boosted by Sheer Force.

However, if you really want to know, gen 2 starters have bland designs, Boring mono types, they are also the definition of "just get bigger" unlike any over starters, Typhlosion is literally a copy-paste of Charizard stats, while Meganium have the same design execution as Venusaur except its bad.
I'll agree that Felarigatr is the best of the trio and an ok-good design, but the rest is literal garbage and among gen 5 as the worst trio overall.
