Did they want this thing to fail? It's the only Alolan form that's worse than the original. They could've even taken the volcanic rock thing in a different direction and made it ground/fire type with the same stat redistribution, which would've been a solid side grade.

it's considerably better. Raticate wasn't outspeeding much anyway, and it always got one shotted by fighting type attacks, so being normal/dark is a straight upgrade because of sucker punch.
Like the other anon said, it's good in NU and PU, whereas old raticate isn't good in either.
