The difference is that the treasure chest then gets a mouth, eyes, sometimes a tongue, arms or legs.

Voltorb gets nothing but the eyes and has LESS DETAILS THAN THE ORIGINAL OBJECT. Not to mention that it's almost as big as a Pikachu.
