They're both valid statements though, what's wrong with them?
>>33376057
That's actually true though

This. There are plenty of Pokemon that work well under trick room, but it sucks that it only lasts for so little time. It would also be cool if we had Pokemon that set up the gravity effect upon entering in so that you could land so many stone misses and focus misses

There's also no Tailwind extender or ability that auto sets it.

because that would be way too strong
>>33376082
Yea, that's why it isn't OU.
>>33376365
Same with an ability that auto sets trick room
>>33376368
Is it? Is it really broken?
>>33376077
I agree with thism Although Trick Room is only good in doubles or VGC. But this is /vp/ aka Smogon central. They fellate smogon OU as the only end all be all measuring stick for Pokemon. You can't really argue with these mongoloids.i don't even hate smogon. I LIKE playing on Showdown. But it's not all there is to Pokemon

>Doublefag gets dubs

>>33376375
There's a reason Trick Room is -7 priority.
>>33376145
At least Trick Room naturally lasts longer than Tailwind.
>>33376360
That's what "with the right set up" means.
And by viable I mean good. Not "pu viable"

Tripples is the purest form for battling. it's 100% skill and tactics oriented. It's where the real men hang out.

Trick Room itself may be good in doubles, but most mons that are parrotted as being supposedly saved by it are still ultimately underwhelming and inferior to more reliable "intermediate" options that can abuse TR, but are not completely reliant on it. Things like Crabominable and Vikavolt are straight up outclassed both outside and in TR.
It's the same fucking shit with Skill Swap Slaking and Mind Reader + Sheer Cold Articuno. You're wasting a turn for something an actually good Pokemon can accomplish outright in situations good players know how to create. A doubles-only gimmick is still a gimmick.
>>33376020
>it needs TR to be viable
>>33376050
Ae there Pokemon good in singles that are bad in doubles?
>It's good in singles!
>>33376020
>>33376057
I mean there was this one gimmicky TR team that got into the 1900s in gen7 OU (?) and it also had Crawdaunt on it.
Sure you can't put some random PU/NU shitmon on your OU team and expect it to be good but if something fills a niche on your team then why not go for it?
The team would get rekt if the opponent preserved Garchomp long enough though iirc

Chansey

Wouldn't that make it OU though?
>>33379001
Smogon's tiers are usage based. Something can be OU but shit because bad players keep using it or something can be PU but OU viable due to having a strong niche within the meta.
>>33378176
>playing on cart
If Trick Room is so bad /vp/, why would you be so concerned about an auto-Trick Room ability or a hold item that extends it (and Wonder Room and Magic Room)?
Seems to me like you fell for the "Trick Room is a meme" meme.
I know /vp/ isn't one person but god damn, which one is it? Is Trick Room good or bad?
>>33379056
Its both actually. Its just bad enough to where wasting a turn on it isnt worth it but its good enough where an auto trick room ability would make it broken as fuck.
>>33379056
It's just like Terrains, which were total ass as a move, but are really fucking good as abilities.
>>33379001
I like to use Weezing in gen 5 as a good example. It had 130 defense, Will o Wisp, and had a great defensive typing against the most common physical attacks in the meta at the time. It didn't sit in NU because it wasn't usable in OU, but because the lack of recovery or offenses made it take too much effort to effectively work into a team. If you really want to take the effort to make it work, it works great.
>it's good if the opponent isn't prepared for it
>>33376020
>*insert PU mon* isn't bad, I swept a *sub 1100 team* with it!
>>33379056
Look at Rain teams pre-Gen 5, and what one hidden ability on a previously NU shitmon did for them.
TR could use a buff, but definitely not an autosetter.
