Dawn has the same waifu value as Serena if not more but is also a capable battler, it's just not her main asset.

Dawn did have the most amount of on-screen battles of any female lead, especially if you include all those training matches she had with Ash. May has the second most amount of on-screen battles, but sadly in a lot of fillers in AG the writers didn't have May do much.

I honestly wish May got full co-star status like Dawn, but it was their first time giving a girl more screentime so it was to be expected. I'm at least glad she got more focus than all the other girls so it could have been worse.

Misty's Togetic was released in 2003. Dawn got Togekiss in 2010. There was a 7 year gap between the two so I don't think the writers were remotely thinking of Misty anymore by the end of DP.
