A while back I thought long and hard about this, and I actually came up with a really solid answer: Marshadow.

Just think about it.

Decidueye would be a starter and complete the GFW trio with Charizard and ninja frog, but how bland would that be? Plus it's way too much focus on one type of Pokemon.

Marshadow wouldn't just be a more unique choice, but he'd cover territory Pokemon fighters in Smash have yet to tackle. It would be a Ghost-type and a mythical, two things we've yet to see in Smash. It would also have an interested blend of martial arts and being a smaller fighter. It's movepool lends itself well to Smash as well.

I'd really like to see Marshadow as their pick.

Even at Pikachu's height? That's not unreasonable. Shit, I'll even come with a quit special moveset for the little bastard:

B: Drain Punch - pulls back both fists, and then launches one first forward in an underhand position Bruce Lee style. If it connects, saps health from an opponent and gives it to Marshadow.
Side B: Close Combat - holding down B charges up, and releasing it causes Marshadow to jump backwards and then dash forward into a rush. When he strikes a target, he immediately beats it down.
Up B: Rolling Kick - Marshadow does a leaping roundhouse kick and lands with a stomp.
Down B: Spectral Thief - Marshadow goes into a stance and extends its shadow directly in front of it. The hitbox of this move locks opponents in place and saps their power. Changes what stats get buffed for Marshadow/debuffed for opponent based on which character the attack was used on (ex. using on Bowser increases Marshadow's weight, using on PIkachu his speed, etc.)
Final Smash: Soul Stealing 7-Star Strike - works and looks just it does in Pokemon SM. Can hit multiple targets.

It could also have moves like Fire/Thunder/Ice Punch for standards, Shadow Claw, Poison Jab, its dodge could be based on Shadow Sneak... it could be a really cool, varied close range fighter. It would be short, speedy, and deal damage (plus two of its attacks "draining" opponents), but balanced by it being incredibly light, defensively frail, and having literally no ranged attacks.

Garchomp would be pretty hype. A somewhat heavy rushdown character with good spacing tools due to his claws. I think this could be a good moveset.
NB: Fire Blast - Garchomp shoots out a small flame that explodes on impact
SB: Dragon Rush - Garchomp slashes forward with a small but powerful hitbox attached to his claws.
UB: Rock Climb : Garchomp travels diagonally up and infront of him with several weak hitboxes
DB: Stealth Rock - Garchomp places a rock on the ground that hits any enemy who touches it
FS: Outrage - Garchomp becomes 1.5x faster and gains I/SA for 8 seconds, but goes through the shield break animation for 1 second after the final smash
