I don't think we can draw any conclusions between Pokémon GO events and main series releases. There's no coordination between the two. If there was, they would have at least had some sort of tie-in between GO and Sun/Moon (releasing the Alola starters in GO or something like that).

I didn't want them or not want them to. I think it was incredibly dumb of them not to.

Last summer more people were paying attention to Pokémon than in 20 years. If they had put a small number of brand new Pokémon in GO as advertising for SM, it would have driven even more SM sales than GO already did. Not doing anything for SM in GO was an enormous missed opportunity.

B/W 2 is a bit better with that but the region is still kinda overwhelming and therefore depressing.
