also the learnsets are smaller, and the strong moves are around level 60

I don't like the Pokémon availability in Gen II; all the cool things I'd want to use come really late-game (sometimes even post-Champion) or have fuck all in the way of moves. Sometimes even both.
I'll probably mess around with Coin Case glitches to get myself a Porygon2 since all I really need is a Quagsire, a couple of TMs from Goldenrod and an egg. Not sure what else to use though.

Homebrew Pokemon Bank can transfer them. Though it doesn't support gen 2 to 7 transfers that look legit yet because obviously they don't have the data of how bank will actually do them.

But as soon as the official version is out, pkhex and consequently the homebrew banks will update to match it. I finished injected Silver a while back and got 199 Pokemon (the most you can get without trading or clone glitch), so I'll even be able to inject my save file into the VC copy and use Bank normally.

It stores stuff locally and can copy your in-game boxes, transfer stuff, inject wondercards/event, mass inject an entire generation of event pokemon, allows you to edit your pokemon on the fly including making them shiny or altering their IVs/EVs and can even generate pokemon like pkhex to inject right into the game. Nah, Crystal isn't available, and even if it was I don't think I could get past how shitty the movesets were for Pokemon back then. Take Heracross for example, it learns absolutely nothing worthwhile until it gets Megahorn at level 54. I don't think I even had a Pokemon at that level by the time I beat Red at Mt Silver.

I replaced the batteries in my gold, silver and crystal cartridges earlier this year. Been doing a crystal run for the last week, this is my current team (I'm at the rocket hideout in mahogany).

Mareep was traded in (as an egg) from silver when I got to the route where you catch it. Dratini was traded in (as an egg) from silver when I got to goldenrod in crystal, since you can get it at the game corner in silver.

This was my OG team playing Pokemon for the first time and some of my favorite pokemon, so I'm going to play through Silver and keep it as a save file.
