Except it was worse than the original. It had to be: B/W was such a step forward that anything would have been worse, just by virtue of being in a holding pattern or a step back. B2/W2 wasn't as much worse as it could have been, it certainly wasn't a turd like X/Y, but it was still a lesser work in comparison to B/W.
