I always choose Totodile for two reasons:

1. It's my favorite starter of all time and I love all of its evolutions. Too bad they fucked up all the gen 2 starter designs after GSC.

2. I love the idea of Silver stealing an innocent Chikorita and turning her into a smug delinquent Bayleef. I still remember how many times she destroyed me in Azalea town. I think this starter fits him a lot more than the others, especially when it becomes a huge man-eating dinosaur.

Anyone with good taste would choose Totodile and enjoy seeing how Chikorita is slowly corrupted by evil. That shitty fire rat can stay in Elm's lab. His final evolution looks like a total asshole anyway. He's really unlikable.

I have to disagree. I thought Krookodile looked terrible until XY. The 3D even made the Shiny look good which had hurt my eyes in Gen V.

I love the green Feraligatr sprite from Gold. It makes him look like some sort of swamp alligator monster.

Also, remember how Chikorita was golden/yellow before Crystal? It looked delicious. I love the green version too, but that yellow pear was perfect.

RSE ruined basically everything. The EV cap is annoying during the main adventure. Same with natures. They make me want to stop playing.

And what about the sprites and animations? Most old pokemon had their design heavily changed in RSE, including Pikachu. And the move animations became shit too. There were some good ones, but compare something like Explosion or Psychic in GSC with their RSE versions. It's absolutely embarrassing.

I've always hated that modern artwork. The neck is way too long. In the game, Chikorita didn't even have a neck. It was part of its torso.

I liked how the exploding Pokemon would disappear along with its health bar after a short and violent animation. In the new games the explosion is too slow, the pokemon's health bar slowly decreases, it faints, and then the enemy starts losing health. It's so boring. And in some games your exploding pokemon faints after the opponent does, which makes no sense.

Using the orphanage Chikorita in Pokemon Prism was like a dream come true. I didn't even evolve it until the post game. It was awesome thanks to the new moves and TMs. Especially that move that had a chance of seeding the target on top of doing a lot of damage.
