My nigga. That's exactly what I'm doing in this run of Yellow version. I just beat Erica and caught Rhyhorn, planning on getting Lapras and Dratini later so my team doesn't end up dreadfully boring.

Those first couple gyms with Raticate and Venonat were a chore, I'm running out of genwun mons to use.

It seems pretty miserable to use. Quilava is a bit rubbish until it evolves towards the end of the game. Same with Poliwhirl. Flaaffy and Phanpy are fine, but don't have too much variety to them. You'll never get a Dragonite in these games unless you grind a lot and Umbreon has no moves to use.

Also if you have all 6 Pokemon already you'll be low levelled the entire game, meaning you might not even get Typhlosion by the E4.

My egg happened to hatch an Elekid so that was mine, but if it hadn't I would have used Lanturn.

My current Crystal team is: Typhlosion, Poliwrath, Tyranitar, Scyther, Skarmory, and Electabuzz. Just finished the main story, still hunting Entei and then Ho-Oh after that. Team is still in the 60's so no Red for a while.
