A lot of people simply don't know. The casuals at least. Only gamers and Pokefans will know about the new games. And even then, I've seen a lot of dislike for USUM across multiple sites.

We still haven't seen this game's advertisement bait feature. Every follow up game has at least one thing that they can use footage of in commercials to make people go "oh wow, THAT wasn't in the last game". In Emerald it was the Battle Frontier (almost always the Battle Pike building, in particular), in Platinum it was the Distortion World, and in BW2 it was the Pokestar Studios.

I'm not saying that this feature will be a make or break thing, but the fact that we haven't seen it yet makes me think Gamefreak still isn't ready to start pushing USM. They're just dropping small bits of info for special occasions.

From my personal experiencie I say this is posibly the first time those game can flop. Personally I missed following pokemon from B/W but always something made me buy the games.

Mixing up the days between the Jap release of the trailer and the English release of the game, most likely. The real issue is the disagreement of how time is measured relative to when new info is released. Yes, the first actual trailer for B2/W2 wasn't released until almost two months before the release of the game in Japan, but that's also about two mouths from their initial reveal. The shorter wait time also made the wait a bit more bearable.
