Not sure yet.

I usually use the female in my main copy of the games (as in all of my main games have used the female since Crystal because their design was better) but I'm actually okay with this male character.

Haven't come up with a character concept or decided on using one of my existing characters from my published or unpublished works or my MMORPG characters either so I can't decide on skin/hair color either.

If I went with my bias, probably one of the darker skin tones as that's my preference in general. Especially since my main Moon was a quarter "hispanic"/three quarters "white"-type look (the 2nd skin color option) it's even more likely but my character idea run the show, not me so... If the character I decide to use isn't that color it won't happen.

There was a difference in XY too. It's easier to tell if you use the blonde hair color, white Serena's skin tone will be much lighter in comparison to Asian Serena's. Their PSS sprites also show the skin tone difference, with white being brighter and pinker than Asian, which is darker and a tiny bit browner in tone.

My waifu when it comes to pokemon girls is Flannery, I consider her 18 which is legal where I'm from but that's besides the point. What I meant by my post is that I prefer the protags to be of a reasonable age, Touma, Touka Kyohei and Mei along with Calme and Serena are better designs and make more contextual sense when your character travels around the country by themselves.
As for who I'd pick out of the base Shonen crap designs we're given for this run, I'd probably go with the second of both genders and hope I can at least change the clothing and hair styles so they don't look so base.
