>Literally only 1 speed point away from being viable
>>
Is this actually true? How large of a difference does 1 point make?
>>
>>33327116

A lot.

Whether you're just one point slower than your opponent or 10 points slower, the result is the same.
>>
>>33327135
But in this case, how often does that one point really make or break it?
>>
>>33327091
Isn't Staraptor strong unboosted? Why not run a Scarf on it?
>>
>>33327194
100 Speed Scarfers aren't really good, 101 is the minimum
>>
>>33327194
The meta is already saturated with +1 100s or lower. It's the reason why Garchomp is so good, having a troll speed tier of 102.
>>
>>33327116
With 101 speed, a Scarfed Staraptor could turn a +1 Volcarona into dust guaranteed.
>>
>>33327194
Scarfers absolutely need 101 speed or higher to revenge kill +1 volcarona.
>>
>>33327147
important speed tiers to note:
>40-45 base speed.
Mostly useful but niche shitmons and alola mons. Can invest about 120ish EVs in speed to outspeed neutral base 60 speed mons.

>60-65 speed.
A lot of strong pokemon here. Mostly walls and bulky pivots. Needs about 180ish speed EVs to outspeed a neutral base 80 speed mon.

>base 80 speed
Mons a plenty here. Many of them are good OU and UU monsters. Lots of walls, bulky offense, supports, clerics, legendaries and a pig. At this speed tier it is worth it to consider going choice scarf. A mon would need around 145 base speed to outspeed a scarfer at base 80.

>base 90
This used to be an acceptable amount of speed for a sweeper but this speed tier has since been massively power creeped. Lando, arcanine and a washing machine reside in this speed tier. Those 3 mons are very flexible and their speed investment will depend on the player who's using them though most often they're be low.

>base 100
This is fantastic speed for a sweeper in UU. If your mon is here then its not a bad idea to fully invest into speed.

>base 102
Congratulations. You are Garchomp, stalwart guardian of OU. As garchomp it is your job to keep those heathen base 90-100 speed wanabe sweeper shitters in UU where they belong. As ever we thank you for your hard work. Now and always.

>120 and 130 speed
Legendaries, Megas and Jolteon. That base 80 choice scarf mon can still keep up with these acceleration demons.

>base 145
mega-sceptile and mega beedrill speed tie here.

>base 150
Mega-dactyl and mega alakazam. A base 90 positive natured mon can outspeed with a choice scarf and a heavy investment into speed EVs.

>base 151
Congratulations. You are Pheromosa (not Pheromosaar). You don't really do much of anything anymore. Because you're banned. Have fun reminiscing about the good old days and enjoy your retirement!
>>
>>33327817
Isn't 110 super important too?
>>
>>33327817
>This is fantastic speed for a sweeper in UU
No it isn't. Base 100 isn't a good speed for a sweeper in any tier.
>>
>>33327817
90 has never been a good speed tier wtf. Even in gen 1 100 was extremely average.
>>
>>33327263
I still don't get why
>>
>>33330242
Because volcarona is the best setup sweeper in OU and the only way to stop it from sweeping is to revenge kill it with a scarfer or have a chansey on your team.
>>
>>33330283
Checked Volcarona's stats. 100 base speed.

Now i get it thanks.

>we live in a world where Staraptor is the best starting bird
>Not like it matters at this point
>>
>>33331574
Actually, Decidueye is the best starting bird.
>>
>>33329598
Don't talk about shit (You) know nothing about, dumb ass.
>>
>>33331586

Actually and unironically, Blaziken is.

Battle Armor means fuck your crits, Assault Vest means fuck your Sp.Atk, Rock means fuck your fire.

>staraptor viable when le 50% usage lion of intimidate, celesteela, and skarmory exist

nah

Staraptor is permanently JUST-mode. It needs extremespeed or something.

Because unlike the attacking or defensive stats, there are no "rolls" on speed; if you're a point faster than your opponent, you're always going to be faster than your opponent
Staraptor is base 100 speed, which is an incredibly crowded speed tier. It's the same speed as M-Kangaskhan, Salamence, Volcarona and Charizard. If it were one point higher, it would be guaranteed to outspeed them every time. As it is, it speed ties and comes down to a coin flip.
Pic related is the best speed tier in the game

>using battle armor
>on something with swift swim

also bug/rock is sadly enough one of the worst typings in the game and it isn't even the best bug/rock in the game

that's pic related
>>
>>33331926
Rock is one of the best typings that Bug and Grass can be paired with. Also Shuckle > Crustle.
>>
>>33331872
>Because unlike the attacking or defensive stats, there are no "rolls" on speed
you're right, they should introduce random speed ranges (ala damage ranges) to make it more consistent. It should never be certain whether or not you can outspeed your opponent.
>>
>>33331974
>It should never be certain whether or not you can outspeed your opponent
>let's force players to rely on RNG and make the Speed stat completely irrelevant
Fuck that.
