I think mods only get rid of the really bad starterwar shit, like all caps/expletives against some starter or namely if a whole thread is started explicitly to bash on a starter. If it's subtly against a starter or asserts one is better than the other but as a regret rather than an offense I notice they tend to leave those up. So it has to look pretty blunt and stupid before they do anything. Sadly, numaleowl/comedy relief owl and baracat and trannyseal have kinda sunk in as terminology here so those aren't going to be considered as flaming as much. If you're seeing it a lot, you could report the especially bad ones and see if they do anything about them.

The only problem in the long run I personally see with these kinds of threads dedicated to one character or Pokemon is they occupy a slot on the board, so if this precedent would continue eventually every thread on the board or nearly every slot would be a general, which hasn't proven to be a problem on other boards like /vg/ for example, but would be stifling for Pokemon during new game season. As there's currently a dearth of information, I don't think it's that troublesome to allow these generals to flourish, since I'm sure there's a cause-and-effect relationship going on that spurs these generals/threads purely to talk about the same favorites that comes from having nothing else/new to talk about.
