I don't know how many people actually had that problem. Me and my sis used to share the original DS. The rule was that the devise was completely shared anyone of us could play whenever hey wanted, but the games were not. I couldn't touch her games and she wouldn't touch mine. We ended up having 2 of the same mario kart game.
Maybe with boy siblings it's different. My cousins solved their problem by just getting the 2 different versions of pokemon each and only games with multiple save files.
