Just like how Solgaleo is based off the Lion Eating the Sun in Alchemy, I think Necrozma is based off a Magnum Opus in Alchemy,

So in Alchemy, there are 4 steps to create the Magnum Opus, or philosophers stone which could represent Necrozma, or what he's trying to do

Nigredo - Blackness, "the dark night of the soul, when an individual confronts the shadow within"
>Necrozma

Albedo - Whiteness, the washing away of impurities
>Ultra Lunala

Citrinitas - Yellowness, transmutation of silver into gold, stood for the dawning of the "solar light" inherent in one's being, and that the reflective "lunar or soul light" was no longer necessary

Rubedo - Redness, signalled alchemical success, and the end of the great work

Maybe Necrozma as we know him, is an incomplete husk since he's been away from Ultra Space for so long, he looks like one,

I think it just wants to get back to Ultra Space.
Necrozma only appears in the games after the Ultra Wormholes dump a bunch of Ultra Beasts into Alola.
Before that it was apparently underground.
It also lacks the "aura" granted from Ultra Space that the UBs and Totem Pokemon tap into again owing to it's long stay in Alola.
I believe that after sensing the Ultra Wormholes it sprang into action to find one and warp home.
Now here's the important part. If you were an Ultra Beast trapped in a foreign world for ages, and suddenly a Pokemon (Ultra Beast) that has the ability to open Ultra Wormholes on command shows up (Lunalaa/Solgaleo) wouldn't you try and harness that power for yourself using any means possible? Perhaps even molding your own body into a control system to take over it's power?

Necrozma always looked like a bunch of pieces that were improperly assembled to me. Its torso is clearly a skull.
Hopefully we'll get an explanation as to why.

Given everything that was implied in Sun and Moon, I'd say something along those lines is pretty likely. Assuming that Solgaleo and Lunala are Alola's strongest link to Ultra Space, it makes sense that it would be drawn to them in some way.

Of course, "alternate story" could mean a lot of different things. Maybe USUM take place in an Alola where the UBs are present from the very beginning, and that's what awakens Necrozma/kicks off the events of the game. Whatever the case, it's almost certain that Necrozma is getting a new, "true" form.

I second this, the prospects of it all seem very promising. Necrozma is already a very cool-looking, well-designed Pokémon on its own (in fact, it's one of my favorite "third" legendaries to date), so I'm excited to see exactly how it ties into the lore, especially given the whole black hole/dead star concept it's got going on. Throw Ultra Beasts into the mix, and the potential is through the roof.

I'd also like to say that while I liked gen 6, it did squander its legendary trio on a flimsy climax that didn't do the story as much justice as it could have. Probably my biggest gripe with how they handled the plot was how inconsequential Xerneas and Yveltal were (not to mention Zygarde, which is a whole other story). They barely went into their lore, and their appearance had no real buildup. The game never even tells you where they came from, they're just there all of a sudden after having been captured by Team Flare.

I think based off the title of the games, the new forms are actually Solgaleo and Lunala being powered up with Necrozma, rather than Necrozma being the base

My reasoning is that since it's "Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon" the titles still refer to Solgaleo and Lunala, like Sapphire and Alpha Sapphire are both Kyogre games despite Kyogre having a new form and Rayquaza having much more importance in the remake
If Necrozma was the main mon, the titles would have been more like Emerald, like Star/Prism/Eclipse/etc.

(BW2 I think is an exception since it's a direct sequel, so they had to keep the Black and White naming scheme or else people would have thought it was another third version)

I can see it going either way, but I think regardless, Necrozma is still going to play a huge role, he might be the instigator to power them up or maybe he infects them like a virus (Though Nihilego kinda has that department covered)

Same logic behind B2W2 can be applied here. Solgaleo/Lunala already have connections to the ultra space and the ultra wormhole, but I am assuming Ultra Sun/Moon refers to:
Sunlight/Moonlight+Ultra Beast Necrozma =Ultra Energy infused prpjections of the emmisaries.
Think of em as Solgaleo/Lunalas energy portrayed as the legendaries by way of a hologram, and Necrozma is the projector, using ultra enqegy as its power source.

Fuck now that I think about it maybe when necrozma finds a way back to ultra space it'll be able to recreate its original body. Like the two ultra forms of the box legendaries are necrozma having a complete body but it's influenced by needing to use solgaleo/lunala's light. Maybe once things settle down and necrozma goes to live happily ever after into ultra space you get to visit him again as post game but now he has fully recovered his original body
