Kalos already means "beautiful" in Greek and the devs said they tried to make the region as pretty as possible with the new 3D effects.

Sure they were neat, but also rather bland.

Kanto is obviously the first region so I give it a pass.

I'm not sure how I would rank Kanto.
In one hand it's supposed to be an ordianry city with no real huge theme.
But on the other hand it's kinda outdated.
Johto isn't anything special either, but it still has the Japanese theme all around.

Anyway. I like the structure and story process of Kanto more than Kalos. (not being cycle, duh)

You don't notice in HGSS because it's a remake of very old games, but if you compare how fast your surfing speed/bike speed is in DPPt compared to RSE or any game after it, it feels painfully sluggish.

Defog is so shit that once you know the layout of an area it's not even worth using. Flash is also like this but at least the move itself was helpful for accuracy drops.

call me crazy but I preferred hms to ride pokemon. I don't like how the fastest movement speed in sun/moon is a loud and flashy tauros. when you don't want to walk you have to ride one of your ride pokemon and it changes the music. the only time riding one of them doesn't change the music is when you're completing the last trial and the legendary cutscene starts. but at all other times it can be a serious moment and then the happy ride song starts up

You can at least do mostly whatever you want from gyms 2-7 in Kanto. It has some optional things here and there but not really anything else. It's better if you include the Sevii Islands.

I wouldn't call Kanto the worst but I wouldn't call it great or the best. It's like the middle region that every region can be compared to.

Actually I think I know what the problem is with all the new regions. Due to the fact that we can have a dynamic camera with the new 3D graphics, it makes the overworld feel smaller than previous games where we could only see a small part of a route at a time, where as with the new games, we can see all of each route if the camera angles a bit. It makes the regions feel small and the game feel short. As opposed to the old games where everything felt huge.

You go through a patch of water and a small route to Mt Pyre prior to Lilycove City. Considering the routes to Pacifidlog are completely optional and you traverse the Dewford and Slateport routes through Briney's speedboat, you can beat the elite four without surfing through more than 60% of the water routes in the entire game. Most of it's just fluff for post game. If you're going to complain about something, talk about the piss poor selection of Pokemon on those routes. No one would complain if those routes didn't contain nothing but Wingulls and Tentacools

If you're talking about the Dex, I wouldn't say that it's a good thing. The Kalos Dex is clogged up with so much shit and repetition, and a lot of them feel tacked on because they only appear once. And since we had so few new Pokemon this time around, a giant Dex made it even harder for them to stand out.

I'd say 300-320 is the golden number for a regional Dex.
