People are fooled into thinking that screentime = character development, which just isn't true. In reality Cynthia is just as bland as any other Pokemon character, but even less interesting from a design standpoint. She's conventionally attractive, is a champion, and has a strong Pokemon team and that's it. None of those things actually make for a well-written character or a well-designed character. She has supportive traits without any defining traits.

People just latch on to Cynthia because she's good looking and was one of the more challenging champion fights. /vp/ scrapes the bottom of the barrel for any way to pass off her "involvement" in the game as story or character development so they can convince themselves that the reason(s) they like her aren't entirely shallow.

Cynthia doesn't have character. Which is good for them so they can impose whatever they like onto her, I suppose.

She's basically the driest champion. Every other champion you can kind of see where they are aimed around. Blue is your cocky rival, Steven is a stonefag, Alder is wandering, carefree hermit, even Diantha has her shtick as an actress. I guess with Cynthia she has her love of history, but its relatively underplayed and seems too similar to Steven.

I guess Lance is pretty similar to her, having a ton of shallow appeal, but atleast he's defined as the dragon master.
