Not sure if you're being post-ironic or something, but I legitimately had fun figuring this out as a kid. Fuck, I miss Emerald. So much to do.

Better than having nothing at all except a tube like SM.

It's amusing and saddening, isn't it? Hoeen felt more tropical and better made than Alola. Never thought I'd miss water routes.

I made a thing a year ago that showed how all the rivers in north eastern Kalos are all linked together across routes and actually logically make sense.

I won't bother searching for it and I doubt there's another one online. Everything from east of Laverre to like above Snowbelle is wonderfully designed though.

216 was nice. 217 is terrible. I don't even mind the super slow walking speeds at certain points in the route, the blizzard that makes it impossible to see where the fuck I'm going is the worst part.

I can't believe I just realized Hoenn is the only region (bar Alola) without gates
>>
>>33278030
Hoenn has its highs and its lows. My favorite parts of Hoenn were the water areas where you could dive and resurface in these cut-off little nooks that usually held shards or something. Hoenn's eastern half also has a lot of cool sandbar areas filled with trainers that're pretty nice, too. And, of course, Route 119.
>>
>>33277879
So, do people not know that you can walk through certain parts of the bog and not get stuck at all? You can go through the route without getting stuck once. I've seen people criticize the bog and snow for hindering the movement speed of the player. The snow I can understand, it's unavoidable and completely slows you down to a grinding halt, making going through the routes tedious as hell.

But the bog is something I never got the complaint of. Not only is that entire route optional, but you can completely avoid getting stuck. I guess item hunters might have a problem.
>>
>>33278052
The only part of horn to me that feels out of place is the part near faralbor town or whatever it's called, between the time you you beat Wallace and the time you get go go goggles
>>
>>33277991
You're not alone. Both routes really capture that feeling of how the journey only gets tougher as you keep moving forward, especially with the constant blizzards and all. Say what you will about Route 217, but I like to think of it as a test of patience and willpower. It's slow, sure, but if you can beat all of the Trainers and get all of the items on that route, then it just feels so satisfying to leave it behind and finally make it to Snowpoint City where you can relax for a bit.

Alright, final bit of Sinnoh spurge. I just think they really nailed conveying Sinnoh's craggy and mountainous terrain. The routes feel messy and disjointed in a really nice way that gives a sort of sense of accomplishment when you actually get through it, while still enjoying the route.

I actually liked the snow because by midway through Route 217, my party was beginning to run low on HP/PP, and it really feels like you're trapped. You don't know how far ahead Snowpoint City is, and flying back to a previous town feels like your entire trek was for nothing. It really is a bit of a trial to go from Celestic Town to Snowpoint City all in one go without healing.

They're not talking about beating the game, but about fully exploring it. For RSE Hoenn, you can literally skip Brawly and Winona until the badge check at the League because neither of their HMs are needed to access any area in the game. In fact, the guards at the badge check are programmed to ONLY check for the Knuckle and Feather badges, literally because of this fact.

You don't have to have fly to get there in the first place, but the rapid water will take you to Slateport, and if you don't have fly or teleport you have to trek through most of the region again in order to get to Pacifidlog again.

The volcanic sediment mixed with the bright green grass and tropical tree looks SO fucking based. Gives a lot of personality to it. You can almost deduce that the ground soil is extremely fertile from volcanic activity, leading to lush environments, even in a non-tropical region.

Wasn't a huge Sinnoh fan, but I wont deny how great a lot of their routes were, especially on the post game island.

>>33282906
There's no challenge in saving before you enter the water, and resetting the game because you were 1 square too high

One of the biggest things Alola needs is just one route of huge open ocean, maybe connecting 2 of the islands together

Fill it out with hidden alcoves, dive spots, sandbars, parasailing trainers, and a huge variety of wild pokemon

My take on Alola's water routes (or lack thereof). Basically what you said with some minor changes and combined with a couple of my ideas.

For the main story, open up the sea between Melemele and Akala, roughly between Kala'e Bay and the motel on Route 8 on one side and Hau'oli and Konikoni City on the other. You could even split it into smaller routes if necessary for whatever reason.

I'd also put in at least one other major route, but instead of sandwiching Akala between two long water routes, the second one could be between Poni and Melemele since they're already close together on the map, starting at Poni Coast and going back to Hau'oli City. At that point in the game, it could be completely optional, too.

Another cool thing they could include is an undersea tunnel like the Marine Tube in Unova. Aether Paradise, for instance, seems like a great location for it to lead to. I marked the area between the Paradise and Melemele since that's the island it's closest to, but it could just as easily terminate at Akala. A great way to incorporate more of the ocean without repeating the same water route over and over again—and it would look amazing, too.

Other than that, yeah, pretty much just expand on what we already have, especially on the first two islands. Not so much Ula'ula because it's already super busy, and a lot of its locations suffer because of it, so they should just fix that instead. And then there's Poni, of course. The area behind the canyon may be a little much, but man, does that island need more things to do.

I like this, it makes the region feel much more connected and open

A marine tube could be great, especially if it's a longer one that connects two of the islands and it could function as it's own route with trainers and shops and stuff.

Maybe when you walk around, you see rare items float by, so after you leave the tube, you surf to the route, dive down and you can find them.
