It's obvious that these guys are based off of ceratopsians, but just like with Tyranitar, people want a mon that looks more like a "regular" Triceratops. I wouldn't mind another one, so I can't complain, but I also see nothing wrong with these guys.

Whether or not Tar was supposed to be a Tyrannosaurus rex in design doesn't even matter; the localizers named it Tyranitar as an obvious homage to it. It follows that people weren't happy with it as a T. rex and so wanted another one. Whether it was intended by the japanese or not, the logic still applies.

I think the localizers were thinking T. rex at the time. I mean, tons and tons of people thought Tyranitar was the T. rex mon. I remember people arguing before gen 6 about whether we should get a new one that's more accurate.
