I know we just had one not too long ago, but fuck it, these are the best gosh darn Pokemon games since Platinum. I think the thing I like most about these games is that they brought exploration and player freedom back to the series, which are two things that went missing with BW. There are so many optional routes to explore and the routes themselves are packed with hidden areas. Better yet, unlike in XY and SM, your "friends" aren't dickriding you constantly but rather show up every so often to keep you on your toes. They're also a lot less linear than the others. For example, when you reach Mauville, the game doesn't force you to take on Wattson right away. You can travel west to Verdanturf, east to the shore of Route 118, north to the Winstrate's, or south on Cycling Road. If this was SM, there would be some jackass on a Stoutland blocking your path until you clear Wattson's gym.
The music is great, and not just the remastered songs. Arguably the best trainer theme in the series wasn't even in the original games. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GIn8_Q27WFY
Although they dissapointed me with the lack of Emerald features, when I put my biases aside and take ORAS for what they are, they're right up there as a contender for GOTY 2014, which was a year with other beloved games like Smash 4, Shantae and the Pirate's Curse, and Shovel Knight

ORAS May looks cute in-game in her sprite and I love how her rivalry with Brendan is so much better than the original R/S. The implied romance/shipping and the fact that you actually battle her again after the end credits with a full team was fantastic.

They did a much better job with both May and Wally in ORAS. The original R/S handled the rivals so poorly, I'm glad how much they fixed them.
They also handled Steven a lot better as well.

I think Brendan is just better as a rival though. He literally says he was hoping May would be a guy when she first moves. Fastforward to the postgame where rhey're on a date. He has actual charactee development.

I don't remember, but if you play as Brendan don't he and May go on a date anyway? Are you talking when they go to the Mossdeep space center?
I never played as May in the game, so is there an extra cutscene or something if Brendan is your rival?

Not gonna lie, I actually enjoyed it. The remastered music was great and the overhauled Mauville was especially comfy. I just wish there was a better postgame like the Battle Frontier, Desert Underpass, and a larger New Mauville. Tossing in all those legendaries seemed like easy padding on GF's part. But I still liked ORAS a ton even if it's not as ambitious as HGSS were.
Felt like I kind of ruined it for myself by usingEXP Sharebecause it made most of the game too easy, but I didn't have much time for level grinding when I had a job and responsibilities. But I have some time now and since I finished AS, I've felt like getting OR on the cheap just to play it all again.
