Toss-up between 1, 2, and 3. Everything after is fine but tends to have some glaring flaw that makes me not want to play them. 6 is kind of an exception because the games are incredibly easy to get into if you just want to use whatever you want.

Gen 4 is best and Sinnoh is best region for me.
most all time faves are from Gen 4 for me. Like Staraptor, Luxray, Empoleon and Roserade.

Pokémon got better with every release until this point. Next games might ruin the sreak because they're moving to a garbage home console.
