Did anyone actually use them regularly in their playthrough of SM? I only bothered two or three times. With their minute long animations and completely over-the-top scale for a Pokemon fight, they just do absolutely nothing for me. Competitively they're almost always never worth giving up the item slot for, either, so what are they even for? I honestly hope they're removed after Gen VII.

I've never played Sun & Moon but if Z-Moves are anything like limit breaks or overdrives in FF, I'd probably get tired of them after a while. Thankfully, animations can be turned off according to one anon. Kids love flashy shit, though, so I'm sure most of them like Z-moves

As far as the anime and other promotional material is concerned, they always were. And they didn't seem like it in gen 1 because console limitations and the fact that everyone could only use normal moves.

Same. I have a specific motion for every attack (though some are very similar like Ice/Fire/Ice Punch of Thunderbolt/Thunder) so Z-Moves kind of amused me.

Won't likely see it, but it'd be cool if you could set such things as part of the motion controls for Gen 8. Not sure if there's some limit as it's not out yet obviously, but DB Xenoverse 2 on the Switch is doing it (already been shown that you can at least do things like go Super Saiyan and fire Kamehameha with motion controls) so it's definitely possible.
