In terms of actual popularity, Samurott should be a lot higher even when excluding Japan. Primarina should be around Decidueye's level of popularity. Torterra is arguably the least popular, /vp/ is the only place where it gets attention.

I think these make even less sense. I can't see Delphox being more popular than Sceptile or Samurott being lower than Emboar. I think it has more to do with relevancy at a given time (for example, Decidueye is at a high right now because of Pokken).
