Maybe if the orange was better and the eye color different. Obviously Dusk's eyes are green for the sunset thing, but gold eyes on it with a better orange would make it nicer as a Midday alternative.
That orange is just awful and the lack of saturation just highlights it. So as it is vs Midday midday is the better design.

The thing I find funny is that Dusk's existence actually made some people appreciate Midnight's design more even if the hate to admit it.

No. In fact this reveal made me retroactively like the Midday form MORE after seeing how terrible the new one looks.

I know it's impossible to know for sure, but assuming Dusk and Midday was revealed at the same time, who do you think would get the short end of the stick in terms of popularity?

Disagree. Midday was perfect; simplicity at its finest. It had a motif that worked and didn't have any unnecessary tidbits pulling the design in fifty different directions. It knew what it was and didn't need to be anything else. Reminds me of Gen 1 and 2 (also 3, to some degree) designs.

And I'm not saying that the more detailed designs aren't or can't be good, but Midday was a very good example of 'not everything needs spikes, stripes, bits and baubles'.

I agree gold eyes would fit nicely with Midday's blue eyes, but the "red, blue, green" primary colors of light is something Game Freak roles with constantly (plus, the whole green light deal) so I'm not surprised the eyes are green.

With duske revealed I hate midday more. It should have been yellow so it can go red > orange > yellow

Depends. Are we talking just /vp/? 'Cause a lot (or just a loud minority) seem to love Midnight regardless. But the fanbase as a whole, I'd think Dusk. People have been clamoring for a wolf that's not bipedal and it's obviously the answer.

Aside from both being canines and sharing the same general colour scheme, Rockruff and Midday look almost nothing alike. Completely different body types, heads look nothing alike. Only design elements they have in common in the rock collar and similar tails.

Sorry, didn't elaborate. I mean pointless spikes and other bits that're there just to be there. Midday's Spikes form the sun motif for its mane and is pretty clever. And makes sense as a sort of continuation from Rockruff's 'collar'.

yeah, but the crescent-moon-shaped mountain of fluff is what anon's talking about here. ordinary midday form's neck spikes mimic the rays of the sun without detracting from midday's sleek-and-fast design. the spikes both had a purpose and were thematically consistent with the rest of midday's design.

the crescent moon fluff dusk borrows from midnight looks clunky from all angles except the profile, and detracts from dusk's sleekness without actually contributing any genuine strength or sturdiness to dusk's design. where the crescent mane made midnight look purposely top-heavy, intimidating, and rebellious, it looks out-of-place and tacked-on on dusk form

Yeah, me either. I still think it doesn't really look the best. Maybe a better alternative would be to have Dusk's eyes gold, but then turn green and "glowy" like Midnight's when it attacks (instead of red). I get the thought behind the green and it's a cool idea, but it just doesn't work with that orange.

I still prefer day - I think it's elegant in its simplicity - but it was a mistake to use day's body shape for dusk imo because of that simplicity. There's nothing they could really change about day to make dusk interesting,leaving us with a crappy looking clone.
