To be fair, they did make a good seal pokemon. The only problem is that it was in Gen 1. Popplio is okay, but its evolutions are god awful. I don't care for Ballio, he was dumb too.

That explains why there were so many Normal types in gen 2 that were fairy/light-themed and ended up getting retyped in gen 6. I still remember how disappointed I was when Togepi turned out to just be a regular old Normal-type turning into a regular old Normal/Flying type. Normal/Dark Girafarig would have been pretty awesome too.

Rain Dance being mentioned to be in the demo is interesting, as it's one of the later gen 2 moves to be added. Sketch being the first move to be added fits with Smeargle being in there too, so chances are they had at come up with at least the basic concepts for the Pokemon with signature moves by that point.

I find it interesting that the New Bark beta map that's in the game's data was actually used publicly as the original starter town (sometime after "Silent Hills" was removed) and that the lab in the bottom right was apparently another lab of Oak's.

I honestly thought pic related was solely a hidden map in the game data that was made as a test during the development and never went far beyond that. I never realized that it actually was used as the real starter town in a public demo.
