If only they were viable in competitive. I enjoyed using both Golisopod and Vikavolt because First Impression is really good in the right situations and ingame eviolite Charjabug until Poni was a really good safe switch-in, still mad about the 43 on Vikavolt though. Ribombee lacks special attack and coverage but is again really good ingame.

Gen 5 bugs are the most disappointing in the series.

Their designs are amazing, but emergency exit kills Golisopod, Ribombee is okay in doubles, but otherwise just another quiver dancer with the defenses of a wet paper bag, Araquanid is the best, but is still just good for one attack, and Vikavolt got FOURTY THREED

I love it when Pokemon reflect on real life counterparts with things like male and female counterparts. I enjoy how it bounces from its antennae, it's fun to imagine them swinging from branches in trees using them and the faux-arms the three possess. The fact that their cloaks will be dependent on the environment gives a nice world-building feel that can't be found in many other Pokemon and the different aesthetics born from each are varied enough to be interesting while standing out from each other without straying too far from the basic design. Pokemon with limited expression and seeing how they can adapt to show their feelings with what they have or silly situations that could be created as a result of their inability to show an emotion interest me. Also, Wormadam beaks are really cute when they squash against their coats.

I think it's extremely plausible.

People have noted time and time again how similar the designs are to each other. This is unlike the Dragonite/Gyarados theory where its solely based on color and likely false. Theyre TOO similar, to the point where Butterfree doesnt match Caterpie whatsoever, but looks almost identical to Venonat. People also make qualms about the difference between moths and butterflies, but they would've only been named that way after it got to the US, hell potentially midway through japanese development. So that point is irrelevant.

More importantly, though, we know for a fact that RG's development was extremely messy. The Pokemon designs weren't designed like they are nowadays, where they have a dedicated team, they were just kinda made as they were going. Even the final product is riddled with glitches, small and big, so the idea that the sprites may have been unintentionally swapped at some point in development. It's not like it's the only thing that people are suspicious of getting swapped in the confusion.

IMO, I think the first two got the most care put into their designs. Leavanny is cutest final form of all time and can still look cool and graceful. And Scolipede, oh boy, its absolute perfection. I just love how powerful and intimidating the body looks, at the same time however, it balances out by having a default non-threatening facial expression. Pinnacle of design right here.
