Game Freak won't be making any more single "third" titles like Crystal/Emerald/Platinum because they realised enough people will buy both sequels that they can rake in more money by releasing "third" titles in pairs like Black 2 / White 2.

Didn't they outright say that they didn't want to make 3rd-game-remasters now because those always sell less than the first two?
Most likely their experiment with BW2's sales numbers were satisfactory enough to preclude the death of the single remaster 3rd game.
(Pretty sure Z was axed because XY did so poorly.)
