The games are made for children. They're not overly complicated. Just make sure you unlearn some shit like individual moves being defined as physical and special.

the mechanics you are used to are not there. There are no hidden abilities to get and good IVs are impossible to come by.
EV training is a slog and you can only use kanto shitmons. Most pokemon won't evolve until you have the national dex.

There is no physical special split so all attacks of a type use one stat eg, water is special even though waterfall sounds like a physical move and ghost is physical even though shadowball sounds special
