Alolan Diglett also comes with surfer bois Alolan Dugtrio, and was a single weak entry in several well designed alolan forms. Not to mention it came in an entirely new game with it's own new mons.

USUM is already being derided as a lazy rehash, and the first mon they decide to show is... a lazy rehash. It's not a good look, and it's a little upsetting GF thinks it can (and probably will) get away with 10 minutes in photoshop level effort.

It's literally the midday model with a modified mane and a color change. They could have at least changed the stance or the face texture but they didn't do that.

I get that they only revealed it because it's going to appear in the anime, but that doesn't excuse the fact that very little effort went into the design. It's also the first thing we've seen about the game since the E3 reveal, and it does nothing to shake the "lol lazy rehash" judgment everyone's had of it thus far. It's game footage, it's marketing for the game. And it's marketing very poorly. Unless I see something better, I probably will not buy this game.

You're ignoring context. Pikachu isn't supposed to change form, it's supposed to be literally Pikachu with a hat and that's what it is. Dusk form is supposed to be an intermediate between the two forms, when it has nothing from night besides its mane. It fails to deliver on its premise.

Actually I'm not, I just strongly disagree. If all it comes down to is you don't think it's a good enough mid-point that's a completely valid opinion, though we got here from having to dismiss multiple other complaints, and that's the thing that's annoying about this.
People (Maybe not you in particular, but you have a little during this conversation) keep guarding an opinion with psuedo-facts that have nothing to do with it's design.

Personally I like it and assuming Midday is the "proper" form and the Midnight form is a change upon that, I think it has enough changes. It gets the fur and fringe, the colour starts to go red, the eyes glow red when it's angry. It reminds me of the usually grotesque half-way point of a werewolf transformation which is sort of the point.
