Those are the decent remakes of the ACTUAL most mediocre Pokemon games

Being the first remakes, it was genuinely unexpected at the time.
It also introduced a good number of quality of life features (most of which haven't returned, kek).
And not to mention the advantage of having Gen 1's Kanto design, making it distinctly a different play than Gen 3's Hoenn. We haven't really had an open region like Kanto since Sinnoh, and FRLG play a lot faster than DPP.
