Sometimes they just have a rom frontloaded onto them and you can still finish the game just not trade or anything, might be neat for an isolation playthrough.

I can trade and it has no translation errors so far (like 20 hrs slowpoke playthrough so far)
Only found it weird that it lacked a battery but chalked it up to Nintendo bring weird sometimes

I think berries work on a different timer.
The memory unit they loaded the game onto must have its own power source, so even though it's fake it works like an emulator, which is cool.
Just make sure you keep hold of it, since putting fakes back in the market, whether they work or not, is really shitty. To you it's a working copy of Ruby and that neat, but to someone else it can be an opportunity to fleece someone.
