Hardly any of their existence are mentioned ever in the continuity of the anime plot. Their appearance are just cameos. Both Ash and Sun are have pretty much the same design compared to the other male protags so Ash is pretty much Sun's replacement.

Gary, Misty, and every other non-Alola supporting character except Oak and Ash's mom will not be invited, and Brock who will appear on the groom's side in one shot.
