I tried to solo a Vaporeon today.

>CP 3249 Dragonite with Dragon Tail / Hurricane
>CP 2205 Vileplume with Razor Leaf / Solar Beam
>CP 1895 Victreebel with Razor Leaf / Leaf Blade

I came so close, to the thinnest red slither, but couldn't manage.
I think the problem was trying to use Dragonite as DPS, it really needed to be SE damage on all fronts.
I was about to try that, but someone else unseen joined in and we beat it together.

I finally caught a worthwhile Vaporeon since I started the game

Yes, they really need to fix the stardust system.
I have stardust income thankfully, where I get to use my Go Plus at work, but reducing the stardust earned from gyms didn't help, and the emphasis on high CP attackers over prestigers means the need for stardust skyrocketed.

The annoying part is that during my solo Vaporeon raid attempt, I spent maybe 40-50k powering up that Dragonite and Vileplume a bit. They were both worth powering anyway mind you, but that's kept me from getting this fantastic Vaporeon to 3k today.

Gen 6 is tolerable and has a few perfect designs (Pangoro, Klefki, Xerneas, etc.), but also has a lot of truly hideous Pokémon (the shitty squid line, Aromatisse, Slurpuff, Zygarde, every one of the mythicals, etc.)

Gen 7 has the worst designs in the franchise's history (though Salandit, Mimikyu, and Pyukumuku are all great, and a lot of the alolan forms are pretty good), and it has the highest density of ugly, awkward, or bland Pokémon: Lycanrock midnight, the the entire seal starter line, Salazzle, all of the Oricorio forms, Ribombee, Lurantis, the Mudbray line, the lychee waifumons, the retarded crab line that starts out as a boxer and turns into a snowman for some reason, Drampa, that hideous fish with people lips, that awful alien mushroom thing, Type Null and Sylvally (which are two different Pokémon for no reason), all the Ultra Beasts, and all the legendaries (minus Marshadow) -- all of these designs are just awful. Adding to this, gen 7 has the highest relative amount of anthropomorphic Pokémon of all the gens, and the most waifubait mons.

Gen 7 is the worst designed gen, and I think it's because the designers finally realized they weren't at all constrained by sprite art -- even in gen 6 where they started experimenting with ridiculous proportions and details, it still seemed like the team was reined in by the ghost of past limitations. By the second sprite-less generation, I think the designers became totally aware that they had no limitations, and so we're left with all these hideous, retarded designs.

My point is glass cannons are not worth it in this meta since raid bosses are going to be spamming their charges every other attack. Dodging is a waste of time due to the dodge bug (STILL in the game), and the fact that you're on a heavy timer. Anything can do well with the right matchups, and both Espeon and Vaporeon are not exceptions, but even then, it doesn't make them immortal. My Jolteon still got three shot by Lugia's Sky Attack.
