I'm generally fine with Digimon's designs but I really dislike most of the Megas designs being some armored humanoids or a rather overdesigned dragon and since more often than not, most of the new Megas seems to be either of those two, its kinda hard for me to be exited for new Digimons.

Each one of them has its own set of flaws, some more glaring than others, but I like them both equally. S1 is not as great as people remember. There are few well executed epsiodes and they are far between. The bloated cast results in many of the kids only getting two, or even just one episode of backstory or development.
I also don't know where this meme that Matt is the badboy comes from. Tai is easily the biggest asshole of the group. Skullgreymon was the result of him threatening to abandon Agumon if he didn't force himself to be stronger and there's that episode where he physically attacks Izzy for no goddamn reason.

90%? The only problem I have with Digimon designs is the overabundance of humanoid Digimon once you read Mega/Perfect. I think a lot of the smaller monsters really get the 'monster' part down better than Pokemon. Only ghost and bug Pokemon really compete.

imo no style is inferior to the other, they have different goals with different charms.

Pokémon fans dislike Digimon for two reasons:

1) they see it as a competitor to Pokémon and people LOVE to take sides in dumb console wars. See Mario vs. Sonic, Quake vs. Tribes, Quake vs. Halo, Quake vs. Unreal, even just JRPGs vs. WRPGs.

2) Pokémon fans seem to project their expectations of Pokémon onto Digimon. In reality, Pokémon is to Dragon Quest 5 what Digimon is to Digital Devil Story. They take one element from another game (monster raising from DQV and demon fusion from DDS), tweak it, combine it with something else (bug catching/collecting for Pokémon and digital pets for Digimon) and just run with it from there.

So there's this idea that Digimon, like Pokémon, are supposed to be collectable animals, which is not the case. This is why many Digimon are humanoid or mechanical, they're a combination of Megaten's demons and the more traditional digital pet monsters, rather than Pokémon which are a combination of standard JRPG monsters with real life animals.


In short, Digimon and Pokémon are two entire separate games. Their basic premise is the same but go in wildly different directions with it, yet still Pokémon fans criticize Digimon solely for not being like Pokémon. They complain that Digimon "don't look like animals" and such things, but the franchise was never about that, so they might as well be criticizing Dragon Quest's enemies for being too cartoony compared to Final Fantasy's.

They didn't grow up with it, when Digimon was big it competed with Pokemon and there was a rivalry for the niche, later generations Pokemon was the clear marketing victor and Digimon faded out until recently with CS/N0.

The rivalry never really broke but nearly every Pokemon fan I have shown Digimon has gotten into it after some convincing. It literally comes down to breaking a biased mentality.

In general there's just usually something that stops me from enjoying the game. Like not feeling like I have enough control over the Digimon. Or the digivolution system being fucking retarded. Or when your digimon "dies" of old age and regresses to an egg, forcing you start the fuck over for no good reason.

It's like every time they keep making something that might be good, but then they just add tedium that turns the experience to be mediocre as fuck. I don't particularly think they're bad, they're just not good.

I don't like the newer Digimon stuff (save Adventure tri since it continues after season 2) but those I do I love. Not as much as Pokémon but if I sat down and thought about it, it'd probably be in my top 25 favorite series.

They are game mechanics that don't scale well, hence why they are absent from pokemon...

I may also add that this tedium was just implemented because digimon was a rebranded tamagotchi line and digimon world has such features.

I never got the Pokemon vs Digimon war mentality. I grew up during the later 90s and early 00s where Pokemon and Digimon were most popular, and there were no debates where I come from about which was the best or what ripped of who and such, personally for the longest times I considered Pokemon to have the better games and Digimon to have the better anime, but Cyber Sleuth was such a fun ride for me that I kinda can see Digimon rival Pokemon if they get more exposure.

And to be fair, Digimon is more like SMT than it is like Pokemon, design wise, narrative wise and the use of religion and mythology-wise.
