Shiny is pretty much rare (I think its 1/8092 chance in Gen III) so you got pretty lucky, but you simply couldn't catch it. But I feel you through, for example I had to see Wally catch Shiny Ralts.

I'd suggest using a lighter color. When making Pokemon black, I usually take the colors from Darkrai. It's black, but a little bit lighter to avoid looking like a shadow.
