Mega Pinsir is an improvement.
Mega Heracross is just based or a different beetle.
Sharpedo and Aerodactyl are some of the worst though.
Altaria, Manectric, Beedrill, and Camerupt definitely improved their designs when they Mega Evolved. A lot are about as good like Scizor and Slowbro, but only a few are as bad as Sharpedo and Aerodactyl. Diancee and Audino are both pretty weak mega designs, for example.

the actual problem with newer games is streamlining and removal of potentially confusing features, unless it's a one-off gimmick for evolution or whatever, and instead moving back towards the pure competitive crowd (like how everything is based around producing a perfect Pokémon or whatever)

does anyone remember when you could tell a pokemons type just by looking at it?

i miss practical design with detailed linework, simple colors, and use of blending. Now shit is simplified and toylike, almost cartoony, with tons of colors and plasticy features, and no sense of color balance. I'm sure they did it so it would be way easier to make toys and plushes of pokemon without them looking derpy (most gen 1 plushes and figures even high quality ones looked derpy for this reason)

I think the problem is that you guys don't understand the most basic thing about character design, anatomy and have no observational skills whatsoever so you just believe whatever you want to believe without looking at the facts.

Just take a look at your crappy webm (which I am assuming you think looks good judging by that filename), Charmander looks like shit, it's anatomy is completely fucked up, just look at him trying to spit fire, it looks like it's going to fall on its head or break its neck.
Charmander has no neck, it's arms are too short and undefined so they clash against it's legs that actually have claws. The shape of its face is really weird and most artists (including sugi) don't know how to foreshorten it. It's head is either not big enough for it's body or not small enough. Considering charmander is a starter its design has been pretty inconsistent and has been drawn pretty different in a lot of official artwork and it think that's the result of its iffy design.
Charmeleon basically fixes everything wrong with charmander though.

Oh, and charmander originally had what you guys like to describe as "souless kawaii uguu" anime eyes. And it looked better with them.

New Pokemon doesn't give a shit anymore about the stuff a lot of older fans used to like.
Mythicals at least sometimes had unique areas to catch them in to feel more like an adventure. The last time this happened was gen 5's Victini. Now these supposedly special Pokemon are just thrown in your face to get them out of the way.
We should be getting more effort, not less. Battle Maison being copy pasted for two (unrelated) games. Models never being fixed.
They try to make things more accessible for younger people (making breeding easier, etc) but they don't try to keep older fans interested. They don't care about older people because kids are the ones that rotate out every year. They obviously want to care about "story" but can't seem to summon the effort to hire a legitimately good writer. If they're obviously not afraid of having a more serious theme then why not put the effort and money into it? And if you don't really care that much then why not make that shit skippable.
More and more figurines of the Pokegirls are being released every day. Lillie is being heavily shilled. Pokemon is changing to be marketable towards as many people as possible to keep relevance. The thing that gives away most fakemon, even when the lineart and anatomy are perfect is the fucking colors. I don't know why but nobody seems to understand they way GF chooses and uses colors.

Also a lot of those designs are too busy and derivative from actual pokemon, they are too worried about drawing something that fits with the real pokemon rather than designing something new.

There's a diference between being practical and being realistic. Helioptile's head makes tridimensional sense, its spine is curved to show the weight of its head and its front legs are long enough to reach the ground if needed.
Charmander is not realistic and it isn't practical. Helioptile is not realistic but it makes sense and is consistent.
To illustrate my point compare Helioptile's 3D model to its official artwork, they are identical because helioptile translates perfectly to 3D. But when you do the same with charmander you'll notice its proportions are pretty off.
