Cosmic has always been stupid because it's basically Psychic. Light is already too spread out among different types. Fairy showed that Game Freak has no problem retconning Normal, so Sound actually has a decent chance if they introduce more Special Normal moves that aren't sound-based.

In all honesty an anti-type pokemon would be badass as fuck if they only gave it to a select few. Maybe even just make the anti-type for a one-off legendary or something. Subspace would've been perfect for ultrabeasts, if you want to make "pokemon" that aren't actually pokemon then Gamefreak should've gone the extra mile and tried giving them unique typings to go along with it.

Cosmic is a type with huge physical and special power but shit accuracy in general, as meteors and cosmic phenomena happen rarely. Risk-taking offensive.

Cosmic is super effective against Dragon because meteor extinction.

You know how Flying is immune to Ground? Cosmic is immune to Flying and Ground for the same reason, just one level higher.

Cosmic is weak to Ice and Fire, as these weather extremes are usual in space. Cosmic is also weak to Psychic, because Physics can read cosmic movements/achieve Nirvana/figure out astronomy/whatever

Bug resists Cosmic because many bugs can survive in space for long periods of time, unlike mammals.

We could make some interesting relations of Cosmic with Dark and with Steel based on the infinite darkness of the universe and our technology/space exploration. This depending on what the meta requires.

Mons like Starmie, Beheeyem, Minior, Deoxys, Dialga, Palkia, Giratina, Solgaleo, Lunala, Cosmog, Gothitelle, Clefairy, Solrock, Lunatone, Jirachi, etc and their families can become Cosmic. There are many moves with a Cosmic theme too and items, buildings, evil teams, plot stories, dex descriptions that show us the Pokémon world heavily relies on space as a theme.

There are too many Psychic types. It is not justified.

But, before that - where should the split be? Of course there are some no-brainers like Deoxys and other legendaries, but what about Pokemon that just use cosmic power, like Ledian and Ursaring? They're clearly not from space but their power comes off from that.

I think that a Cosmic-like type is needed, but it can't be simply "Cosmic" as the group of pokemon that benefit from the space comes off in more subtle ways than "meteors I guess lol"
