I believe it'll give us the ability to turn mons into what is essentially a Totem Form. The reason it's black is because it's given to you by Nanu, who trains Dark types, masters Black Hole Eclipse and has an interest in Ultra Space given his connections to Team Skull and his involvement in the SM post game. Reminder that Totem Forms supposedly get their power from ULTRA Space.

Every Pokemon gets a fixed power up, eg Incineroar gets +2 Attack etc.
