My tip is that you have to be present. At least be around. Stop by, cross paths when you can. Ask how he's doing every day. And put purpose behind everything you do. I do try to be around for him, even if I can't come up with things to actually do. He doesn't always have time for me, though, and I can never tell when checking in on him is going to cross the line into annoying him. Which it sometimes does.

I don't always know what to give him. I just bought him a new computer after his died, and he appreciated that, but, a lot of the time, I just feel so superfluous. He doesn't seem to need or want anything from me, and, when I try to do things for him on my own initiative, I tend to misjudge things and just end up upsetting him.

He makes me so happy when we get to really spend time together, but I'm just constantly afraid that he's going to tell me someday that it's not worth it to him.
