while the posts above are correct, I think you can tell there's a certain sort of play that the game is balanced around.

They expect you to catch some new Pokemon in every route (but not hunt down 100% completion pokedex), battle every trainer, and use a full party of 6. Given how much money they throw at you, they also expect you to spam healing items instead of scurrying back to the Pokemon center all the time. The game is balanced around a stupid 7-year-old's ability, because that's their target audience.
