Exactly. They didn't think Pokken could stand on its own merits, and they knew people were already bored of SM and needed something to tide them over.
USUM was basically made because they're required to let us Catch 'Em All in a single generation, Mythicals aside, due to the Generational Marking preventing Gen 3-6 Legendaries from being used in Official Gen 7 Formats.

Things will pick up. They always do. Sometimes you just have to jive it your best shot and hope for the best. As for the games? Well, go with the hope that Game Freak will be able to pull off something good. They already have most of the work done anyway. Just wait a day or two before buying them to see the general consensus. That's what I plan to do.

Dude, gen 4 was my first time following "LEAK" season, back then we had communities like psypoke(which was admittedly already dying of all the people running it getting real lives with school/work) and serebii actually posting everything they found not borderline partnered with Nintendo and holding things back until an official source put it out to avoid c&d crap. That delay may have gone over better than it would gave today since people on the internet didn't jump straight to death threats, but people were upset, we wondered what happened, if it might be pushed back further, if we were going to lose features for it to make it's new release window, if we were going to have to say goodbye to pur bros again like with the jump to gen 3, hell some people just got fed up with the trickled info for a game they may not play for years so they moved on and ended up dropping the series for a while if not permanently.

I think it's pretty bad, personally. I complain about SM a lot, but I liked it. I'd love to buy the Ultra games if I feel like it's a good investment.

The problem for me is that they're not showing us WHY we should buy the games, to show us that they're putting an effort and making these games worthwhile. I want to like these games, but they're not giving me any reason to think it's anything but a lazy cashgrab.

I'm not freaking out over the lack of news, but they're not really making it easier for us to have faith in them.
