I have always been fascinated by this scene. Purugly has been a sprite for most of its life, and even now with 3D, is not like you can fully appreciate how fat it is without the tail-corset, because it doesn't come off neither in refresh nor in battle. So I can't help but wonder if details like this are made exclusively for one time jokes in the anime or if the devs actually build all these hidden features in the mons' designs with no real purpose or chance to ever be properly shown/adressed due to the way the game works. Like how excadrill can tuck its head between its arms to become a literal drill, yet there's no attack animation showing that and as far as I know it has only been shown in the anime.

Yeah, I wonder how much thought they put into these design concepts that we may never realize unless maybe they throw it in the anime.

I still am hoping that the anime reveals araquanid has a super tiny head that is magnified by the water bubble

The tail comes off in Battle Revolution, too. Makes me wish models were livelier so we get to see all sorts of unique features every Pokemon has.

i was about to call you a liar, but then i remembered that purugly is a gen 4 pokemon and not a gen 5, sadly we never got a ''colosseum'' game for gen 5.
>>
>>33157055
Holy shit bro this needs to be a pokemon.
>>
>>33157021
Purugly's tail corset flinging off would have been the perfect fainting animation, but instead it kind of just keels over

I also wish Jynx had its fainting animation from Stadium where its body would disappear and its hair would just flop to the ground. Made it seem a lot more mystical.

In general fainting animations are pretty tame, they all used to be so dramatic

Barreleye fish
>>
>>33157141
A barreleye or spookfish. A weird bastard with tubular, vertical eyes protected by a translucid forehead. The video I saw them in said they look upwards to detect the silhouette of prey, I think.

>>33157094
Lanturn is kinda close. Kinda. Would love a more obvious approach on it tho, even if shitters would call it out for being "literally my mom's spookfish".
>>
>>33155377
I don't get it. What's so wrong about this image?
>>
>>33157021
All the design quirks in the anime are official and intended by the game designers. They get given reference art for the games to work with.
