i don't prefer male or female but usually i prefer that at least two pokemon on my team have compatible egg group and opposite genders, so after i finish the league i can send them on a 'honeymoon' where they breed to their hearts' desire. the rest i either box postgame or reset EVs and train for postgame/online

For abilities that activate when the opponent is a gender you want them to have to be male.
