Are you seriously gonna keep telling yourself that Pokemon didn't lose some of it's appeal in recent years?
What the fuck happened?
>>33146552
It did during gen 5 but it came back gen 6 and Pokémon go. They did a great job advertising sm too.
>>33146552
Gamefreak began treating Pokemon like EA treats Call of Duty.
It turned about quantity over quality. But even then they can't do that properly if SM is any indication
I'm 20. I don't if quality or I'm getting older but definitely Pokemon. The hardcore fans are moving away. Casuals remain I guess
Pokemon twitter fans in 2013 it was massive but it's so small now. Sales remain the same. So good for them
>>33146552
kiddification, casualization and an overall bad direction.
pokemon peaked at gen 4. gen 5 didnt bring much to the table but it retained most of its quality. gen 6 and 7 were a trainwreck
>>33146572
Call of duty is Activision
>>33146552
if in the next gen my bros don't get any significant buffs or i dont find new bros that will at least tide me over competitively while i appreciate my old bros aesthetically then i wont buy the games anymore
>>33146591
Something happens in gen 5. I think they got scared of reaction of the "reboot" the anime and movies took a huge drop and for a Pokemon game DS it sold 3 million less than diamond and pearl
>>33146596
I thought that was just the Black ops series?
Either way my point still stands
>>33146617
Last call of duty actually disappointment is sales. And then they went back to its roots with world war 2
Maybe a Pokemon game needs to flop
3D ruined the franchise
>>33146943
Or it exposed how Barebones Pokemon games really are. Sprites hid them. Made everything look bigger but you can only do sprites for so long
They need to take more development
>>33146591
Pokemon has always been a casual kiddy game. Always. If you had any trouble with the early games your a fucking retard.
>>33146552
Not in recent years, no. Gen 4 was a major falloff, yes, but we've long since recovered from that.
>>33146964
>Gen 3 was a major falloff
fixed
>>33146964
>Gen 4 was a major falloff
In popularity. It was the apex in quality though.
>>33146552
I blame gen V and it's lack of ribbons
you just grew up. the games have never been as good as they are now
>>33146974
I think this is actually a more accurate answer.
Pokemon was extremely unpolular in the United States between 2004-2006. That was a few years after PokeMania had ended (1998-2002). Normies grew out of it and picked on people who still liked it.
>>33146987
This. I don't think there is a single fan base as wrapped up in nostalgia as pokemon. Its nuts.
>>33146998
Yeah, it's baffling.
I find myself able to replay gen 1, 2, 4 and 5.
Im never touching gen 3, 6 and 7 ever again
>>33146996
i don't think so I was born in 1996. Gold and sliver was irrelevant as kids. It was all about yugioh and beyblade
Hoenn rejuvenated it with kids Atleast
>>33146998
Pokemon games are quality like other franchises. It relies on nostalgia for the sales and pull factor
>>33146552
I've been playing it for nearly 20 years now and I'm a 30 year old hyper cynical piece of shit. If I haven't turned on it yet, you guys are just being assholes. Plain and simple.
>>33147041
I'm pretty much in the same boat. I don't really get what these guys are on about most of the time.
>>33147061
That's exactly how society move towards. You compare anything 20 years ago to today aesthetically . Shit changes rpg. Society has changed for the better I think
Music, fashion etc it's different
>>33146552
gen six killed pokemon for me
>>33146552
It has, just like everything does.
OP's post us pointless yet again.
>>33146552
Since gen 3, everything past gen 2 is garbage
>>33149272
>Implying Gen 2 isn't horrid by todays standards.
REMEMBER THE 90S
>>33149285
this isn't about the nineties, it's about the massive toll gen 6+7 took on the franchise.
>>33146552
Gen 5 is the lowest point competitively but was the high point of the series in terms of main story
Gen 6 is the low point story-wise but has the best competitive scene (outside of vgc 2016, that was a shitshow)
Gen 7 is the worst of both worlds. Competitively the Tapus ruin all fun and story wise it's dull as shit. Also they removed so many nice quality-of-life things from gen 6 and I have no idea why
>>33146552
The grnwunning of XY and SM happened. Gamefuck values money over quality now, so they rush the games for holiday releases and spends more effort on creating Mythicals, event items, animu forms and gimmick selling points than the actual story, characters and content. Because "kids don't care about replayability".
>>33146626
Sun and Moon's dex really is pathetic with all the waifubait it contains. Especially Salazzle and Tsareena.
>>33149305
>best competitive scene
Platinum was the apex of the franchise. It was all downhill from there.
>>33146569
Naw, it lost a lot in gen 3 and even more in 4, but started to recover in 5 and 6.
>>33149889
>double battles and abilities
>physical special split
>lost a lot
Every gen up until 5 brought a major in-battle change for the better, 5's main contribution was the tm change, which was a long time coming, while 6's main contribution, the fairy type, is... debatable
>>33149889
Nah gen 5 lost a ton compared to gen 4. Black and white sold 3 million less than d/p
>guise i hate pokemon so much lol
>why are you telling me to leave if i hate pokemon are you a nazi or something
>>33147061
I still find it hilarious that Green grew up to be a midget with thicc child bearing hips
>>33149912
You are so insecure
Saying the past games are shit doesn't mean he is saying. He hates Pokemon. You don't have to like everything
I can't believe it's been 3 gens since we last got proper new evolutions
>>33147061
>blue in 2016
figurine when?
>>33149277
Considering the garbage post game we get now, it's a masterpiece, actually.
Gen 1 and 2 had an excuse, Gen 3+ doesn't. Especially not after Emerald, Platinum, and HG/SS.
And it's not even just that WE know they're more capable from those games - they know they are too but are admittedly holding themselves back like fucking retards.
I don't generally wish violence on anyone but I really wish someone playing Go in their car would just run down Masuda and Ohmori, killing them instantly.
Though I'm not entirely sure after what they've done to the series that they don't deserve to suffer a bit, lol.
>>33149272
I agree completely. Gen 3 was the turning point for Pokemon. They were no longer limited to Gameboy hardware, so it was their chance to push the franchise forward. Instead, they opted to recycle the ideas of the first two games, complete with overworld graphics that look like shit for a GBA game.
Imagine if gen 3 had dropped the gym and evil team shit instead of cementing it as the plot every game must follow.
